📄️ Manual Overview
Testspace extends automated test results with manual testing — for exploratory testing, checklists, and any verification a human still has to perform by hand. Manual tests are written as specs: Markdown files with test cases and steps, enhanced with the Liquid templating language for reusable, data-driven content. Specs run through the same sessions, Results, and metrics as your automated tests.
📄️ Writing a Spec
Manual tests, known as specs, are written in Markdown (CommonMark, with GitHub-style tables, task lists, autolinks and strikethrough), enhanced with the Liquid template language. This page covers the spec format itself, which is the same whether your project is Standalone or Connected.
📄️ Creating & Editing Specs
This page covers how a spec actually gets created and changed day to day. For the spec format itself (front matter, cases, Liquid), see Writing a Spec.
📄️ Includes
An include is a reusable markdown fragment, pulled into a spec (or another include) with the {% include %} tag. This page covers creating and managing includes; for the tag syntax itself (referencing an include, passing parameters), see Writing a Spec.
📄️ Manual Spaces
A Space is where you run tests and collect Results. For Manual testing, it's also where the underlying content comes from — either specs and includes managed in-app, or a checkout point in a connected repo.
📄️ Running Tests
The Manual tab lists a Space's specs. Click a spec to open it, then select START to run it.
📄️ Automated Fixtures
A spec fixture is serverless automation (aka function), using GitHub Workflows or AWS Lambdas, that executes before and optionally after a spec. A fixture is used to ensure that the spec's execution environment is in a well-known state (e.g. acquire necessary resources), before the manual instructions are executed, and when applicable clean up the environment (e.g. release resources) after the spec is complete.
📄️ Branch Workflow
This page is specific to Connected Projects, where Spaces map to repository branches. For Standalone, the equivalent workflow is a Space's Duplicate and Merge options; see Manual Spaces for the git-to-Standalone equivalents.
📄️ Desktop Preview
This page is specific to Connected Projects. Standalone doesn't need a separate local preview tool — the in-app editor's own Preview tab already renders live; see Creating & Editing Specs.
